Am I the only one?
While I enjoyed the movie for the most part, at sometimes I found it incredibly cheesy and it kind of put a damper on the experience. Anyone else agree?

shareYes you are!
shareI loved it but to each their own. A while back there was a horror spoof (I believe) movie that critics & the public including all my friends & even my sister (who's not into those movies)all were going wild about saying how amazing & funny it was. I saw it & thought it was complete crap . I still remember getting "Really you didn't like it ??" from everybody.
shareWhat movie?
shareNo, you're not the only one. I find the movie watchable, but sometimes the tone of the film feels kinda douchey, like I just want to tie all the characters to train track and watch a train hit them one by one in rapid succession.
shareA lot of SK's writing is. A lot of it is great, but even in some of the great horror stories, there is an underlying feeling of false spirituality or smarmy knowing.
But yes, I agree. It is cute & enjoyable but far over-rated.
Cute and enjoyable? I thought you said this movie bored the piss out of you.
shareYou should try standing on your toes.
Can you please cite examples of this cheesiness?
Never defend crap with 'It's just a movie'

How is it "cheesy"? The only cheesy thing about the movie, to me, is the title. Now that's one big cheesy thing about the movie. Everything else is very, very realistic and relatable it's almost scary.
The MOVIE is more about friendship and life (I guess that's the source of this cheesiness you're talking about?), but the BOOK is more about horror; the Brower kid's dead body and how seeing it affected their lives afterward in a "goocher" way.
Well, the title was only called Stand by Me so they could capitalize on the famous song. Movies do it all the time. Stephen King's work was entitled "The Body."

The sun is shining... but the ice is slippery.
"The Body" is kind of imaginationless, boring title. Just the object. How long did that take for him to come up with? Probably 10 seconds or less.
shareGoocher?
shareOh my :/ in my 31 years of life on this planet I have never ever heard a single person use this movie and the word cheesy in the same sentence. I would say to each their own but jesus christ... YES you most certainly are the only one who thinks this way.
shareI watched it when I was about 10 and thought it was AMAZING. I watched it again when I was about 25 and thought it was a terrible movie.
shareEven if this movie is cheesy - which I don't see at all - there's gotta be about 17243 movies that deserve to be called 'cheesy' before this movie even gets mentioned.
