a good movie IF it were an original

some ppl state u have to look at this as a stand alone film, as an independent piece of cinematography. i can only agree partly. especially since today remakes r so popular.
unfortunately it is a remake and therefor is subject to be judged by its orignal - obviously it doesnt stand a chance. i agree that there is potential and the same actors in a different story backround might have made a very worthy movie but by comparison this one doesnt live up to its 1939 counterpart.
why remake something that is impossible to remake? why not think of something new and innovative urself? that is the real question. it has been doen with many other movies (and sadly will be done with many more) the result is the same in most if not all cases - a let down.
i urge modern filmmakers to step back from copying and start to think about new possibilities and stories themselves.

People give this movie too much flack. The filmmakers weren't trying to out-do John Ford and John Wayne, they were simply allowing a bunch of old singers a chance to dress up as cowboys. I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan, so I enjoyed this. He has some great lines in it - he says something to Kristofferson like "I heard you busted out of jail and killed a man, Ringo, and I know that's not just idle gossip 'cuz you're stadin' here talkin' to me." Not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but pretty cool if you're a non-elitist fan of westerns and old country singers.

I agree. I really like this movie. Johnny Cash had some woderful lines in it. I've always been a fan of Outlaw Country, especially the Highwaymen. Too bad half of them are gone.

I have to agree. I also liked the movie. I guess i have to say that since i play the baby in the movie.

I thought this was a great movie. I don't understand the criticism.

I don't understand the criticism. For my taste, modern movies beat the old ones ten ways from sunday.

This version of stagecoach has a ton of excellent actors that deliver believable dialog.
More than can be said for the old cheesy wheezy one.

Hey, the cheesy wheezy one was pretty good. This one suffers from being an awful lot of singers and being a TV movie, meaning a limited budget.

Those singers were some of my favorites; so I'll watch this version.

But if I want real cowboys, I just have to go with cheesy wheezy.

I like this one more than the 1966 version, but it, of course, pales next to the original.

It's OK but not a patch on Fords beautiful 1939 version. The singers give good performances but I'm afraid I was bored towards the end.
