I would say that SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE is a rip-off of HALLOWEEN (if it is to be said that it is a rip-off of anything that is).
I disagree that SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE is a rip-off of BLACK CHRISTMAS. I will compare a few aspects of the two films.
BLACK CHRISTMAS does not reveal that the killer escaped from a lunatic asylum, whereas in SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE it is played out this way. In BLACK CHRISTMAS, it's merely suggested that the killer could have been in a lunatic asylum.
The killer's motives are clearer in SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE, and his identity is known from the outset. In BLACK CHRISTMAS, the audience is not informed as to the killer's motives or to who the killer is. It is implied that he starts off as a guy who makes obscene phone calls and only becomes a killer when one of the girls insults him.
The pacing of the two films is entirely different. BLACK CHRISTMAS has a strong opening followed by a long slow middle part, before rebounding at the end. SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE has a dull opening, followed by an interesting middle, and a fast-paced series of killings (combined with suspense) in the final 25 minutes or so.
SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE boasts several gore scenes, whereas BLACK CHRISTMAS uses the better techniques of suspense and suggestion (in a similar manner to HALLOWEEN). The killing of Margot Kidder's character in BLACK CHRISTMAS with a glass unicorn was absolutely brilliant - devoid of gore but yet very disturbing and suspenseful.
SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE does not have a "final girl", but instead focuses on a battle of wits between the final three girls and the killer. BLACK CHRISTMAS does have a "final girl", but must of the other sorority girls seem to disappear rather than actually get murdered. In BLACK CHRISTMAS, there seems to be around 10-15 girls at the beginning, yet there are only about 4 deaths shown. We lose track of what happens to many of the others.
In BLACK CHRISTMAS, the "final girl" (in this case Olivia Hussey) kills a guy who she thinks is the killer but turns out not to be. In SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE, it is clear that the guy killed at the end is the real killer.
And the most obvious of all - SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE is not set at Christmas time.
Consider the points I have made and you will see that there are significant differences between BLACK CHRISTMAS and SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE.
