Why Can't they Make movies like this again??

Now I was just a kid when this movie came out along with some of the others, but I just remembered loving them. They were very original if you think about it, they weren't a book adaption, remake, tv series adapation, or sequel, they were orginial. Movies like Prayer of the Rollerboys, Solarbabies, Little Monsters, and Alien from LA were decent films in their time, why can't we have that again?

LOL!!!

I agree, I loved this movie when I first saw it back in the 80's. I'm glad they finally released it on DVD. I bought it today and just finished watching it. Yes it's kind of hokey, but that's what's charming about it. It's also fun to see Jason Patric and Adrian Pasdar when they were so young!

I completely agree with you but these days people don't want nonsensical fun anymore, they want boring depressing reality. One thing I absolutely looooove about the 80's and things from the 80's is that it didn't take itself seriously. Now? EVERYTHING is serious. I miss fluffy, cheesy, pointless, movies like these. IMO, Feel good, trumps outstanding plot and dialogue ANYTIME of the day.

Ugh! You're the problem with Hollywood today. There are way too many of you that judge a movie solely on whether the good guys win or not. The plot, script, graphics, and acting don't matter beans to you. And that's why we get godawful movies all the time.

Awesome. I wish they would make movies like this again! Hollywood lost its way a long time ago. Now they only make garbage and rehash the same crap over and over and everything's just overdone with CGI.

But you know what - Hollywood does try to remake movies from the 80s and they screw it up all the time anyway so I think they just don't have it in them anymore to produce movies like this.

If Hollywood was smart, they would dig out all those unproduced screenplays written and registered during the eighties that they have in their vaults and start making movies from them.

1 I don't remember this movie doing that well at the box office.

2 Maybe not intentional, but it appears that this movie borrows elements from the Mad Max movies, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and other stuff.

Not sure. This movie is a hidden gem that was probably seen as below average or mediocre when it first came out. Compared to movies aimed at the same age range and in the same theme that are produced today - Solarbabies is gold.

How many a$$holes we got on this ship, anyhow?!

Because of no talent writers that lack imagination!
That's why.
Plus Sci-Fi fell out for a long whioe, now its just startung to reappear.
Another reason is backers, takes money to make movies, and ifbyou think about it, its like the stock market. Some stocks do good, some tank, samevwith movies.

Trying to find people to invest in a project can be tricky, you might getvall the money you need, but thats no reason ti believe it will be a hit. Some low budgit movies go on to be hits and develop a cult like following.

Just like the stock market, its hit and miss.

I grew up in the 80's but never even heard of this movie, I recently just recorded it on my DVR but have yet to watch it. Funny how some people either love it or hate it, seems like there is no in between.
