Yeah and you also forgot to mention the Friday the 13th series. The most inconic slasher that pretty started the whole slasher fiasco. They even reference it in Slaughter High. In fact in the scene that they reference it in they even use the "Chi Chi Chi Ha ha ha"

80's slashers are the best. My favorite are Funeral Home and American Gothic.

reply

american gothic..as in the badass series that only lasted a year?

reply

Yes American Gothic was a moive and a very good one at that. It was a slasher that came out in 1988 and it's definately worth watching.

reply

I heard that movie sucks? You actually think it's good? If it's not boring I may think of watching it.

...all horror movies from the '80's, all featuring messy body counts. Oh, by the way, does anyone here remember a horror movie from the '70's or '80's where an old decrepit woman hangs out in the attic of a farm house in a rocking chair and causes accidents for the family living there. I think in one part she kills the boyfriend of the daughter with a cycle or something. I remember seeing it when I was very young, but never finding the name of it. Alright, thanks.

Sounds like "The Shuttered Room" (1967): https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062266/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1

Despite its late 60's release date, it's timeless horror; not gory at all, like 80's slashers, but decidedly creepy and haunting.

reply

Wasn't that one called "Burnt Offerings?"

reply

I'll see, thanks.

reply

Student Bodies is excellent, probably the best horror spoof out there. Far better than the crappy Scary Movies series.

Don't hunt for death, boy. It will find us all soon enough.

reply

Burnt Offerings is a rip-off of the Amityville Horror, and it was a damned sight more scary. I'll never forget watching that as a six-year-old kid with my mum and dad...I was so scared that I never slept for three nights!

reply

"Burnt Offerings is a rip-off of the Amityville Horror"

Burnt Offerings predates The Amityville Horror- both the book and the movie.

...some cheesier '80's horror titles. Some of those are pretty good, some of those are pretty bad.

I have to say I liked Basket Case, but Basket Case 3 was too comical. Does anyone know why Basket Case 2 is the only one of them not available on DVD (last I checked)?

Also, Maniac Cop! I was scared of that guy growing up. I also think Maniac Cop 1 & 3 are on DVD, but the 2nd one isn't?

Freddy Krueger still scares me, I love the Nightmare on Elm Street films.

reply

what about "trick or treat"? that's good 80's cheese, not a slasher though, but it's "scary." and come on, NO ONE mentioned "child's play"!!! that's a classic.

I saw this movie as a kid and can't remember the name. Does someone know it? There were two groups of high school kids, one group of boys and one group of girls. Boys were rude to girls so a nerdy boy dumped garbage in their car but got caught. The boys forced the nerdy boy to rape one of the girls in a school bathroom. The girls retaliate, then the boys retaliate, killing another of the girls (I think she was walking and they forced her off a bridge or cliff with their car). Finally there is just one girl left. She lures the guys to a junkyard, then picks them off one by one with a bow and arrow (and maybe other ways too).

Sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks

reply

Halloween II is by far the best horror sequel ever!!! If not the greatest horror/slasher film there is ever. Highly underrated, I say.

reply

Yeah, Halloween II is underrated. Both the Sleepaway Camps equals are pretty good, too. Two other movies that are underrated: Maximum Overdrive and The Beast Within.

reply

Thanks for agreeing with me Yellow. And Maximum Overdrve isn't too bad actually.

reply

You MUST see Return of the Living Dead. The only film that gets a perfect balance between being genuinely frightening and hilariously funny.
