I remember being a teenager and thinking this guy was "cool." Because, obviously, grown ups thought he was an idiot. Funny how fast a normal person becomes a grown up...

Heroin is awful, the Pistols seem like total assholes

I do like their music and will occasionally listen to it these days (I like Johnny Rotten's attitude, even now, refusing to bow to whatever ideological cult has a death grip on society at large).

I really dig them punk bands!
I’m more a metal fan but punk is undeniably awesome…I love the chaos and madness of punk, it’s pure resistance and venom, I don’t care what anyone says about the talent, Punk was really cool

Maybe the rest of the Sex Pistols had some talent, or at least a lot of energy, but Sid Vicious has been described as stupid, horrible, and worthless by those who met him, as well as totally unable to play the bass. But he's also been described as very charismatic, and teenagers are always willing to get behind anyone who's telling all the adults in the world to go fuck themselves, so maybe that's what you saw in him.

But yeah, underneath the cool punk exterior, he was just too dysfunctional to live.
