Was nancy actually like that???

Did she actually speak like that and all?

reply

I'm not sure how she actually spoke, but she certainly acted like she's portrayed in this movie, and in many cases much worse.

I advise you to read Deborah Spungen's book ("And I Don't Want To Live This Life..."). She describes in detail all of the behavior Nancy displayed at various times in her life. The movie certainly doesn't put her in a very good light at all. Ms Spungen's book, however, shows that Nancy definitely had some psychological problems, most likely originating with her difficult birth.

You can hear her speak in interviews. Sometimes she faked an accent.

Her nickname was "nauseating Nancy". That's not casting her in a very flattering light.

I put the fun in dysfunction!

reply

That is so sad. Nancy was probably a fun person but suffered some severe mental health issues (which were not her fault).
I m sad for her because nobody liked her exept for Sid, and if he wasn't junked up all the time, he may have left her also :-(

Definitely read "And I Don't Want to Live This Life". Nancy was a handful and yes, probably really annoying, but she suffered from mental problems her WHOLE life and saw a lot of doctors for it (in the book at some point the mother said eventually in the late 70's they finally got a name for it: Schizophrenia).

If you watch the Sex Pistol's documentary The Filth and The Fury, they described Nancy as some sort of "dark presence" among the band. I got the hint that she was very disliked and loathed by the band. They just had to deal with her because she was Sid's girlfriend. But they tried to separate Sid & Nancy apart from each other. The band recognized what kind of dark road Sid was heading down, being with Nancy (with Nancy encouraging his drug habit). Nancy was a horrible influence for Sid.
