Still has an impact, even 18 years later...
I saw this in 8th grade health class in '87. Sheen gives such a powerful and moving performance that whenever I hear the word "alcoholic" I immediately think of this film.

shareAAAhhh, this movie is so good and moving just like you said. When Martin got on his 'drunken' knees begging/crying, that was one of the best performances in that movie!! He's awesome!
sharethis movie is pathetic and martin sheen sucks
shareYou are half right in my opinion. Martin Sheen....I never much cared for him. But I have to give it to him for this one, he did a good job playing the role of the drunken father. He actually almost had me convinced that he had quit drinking toward the end of the movie, I was totally surprised when his family found that bottle that he was hiding in his things. Like I said, I never liked Martin Sheen and I DESPISE Charlie Sheen. But this was a good movie and he provided a good performance. But hey, I guess everyone gets lucky once in awhile.
shareHaha, what a shame, I've just bought it through Amazon.
shareI too saw this movie in Health Class in '87 and I agree, I still equate the thought of alcoholism with this movie...It definately made an impact on me! By the way, where did you go to school? Wouldn't it be weird if...?
You're gonna need a bigger boat!
lol im seeing this film right now in school. im in 7th grade. i didnt finish the movie yet but its pretty good so far. im up to the part where the kids get taken away.
shareI am from HONEOYE FALLS NY. cool. Currently i am watching this in health class for 10th grade. I think it is hilarious when martin sheen gets on his knees and flops right onto his face after the kids are taken away. Everybody laughed. But its pretty good acting. the mom pisses me off.
