Movie similar to Salvador?

This movie reminded me of another movie I saw that I think came out around the time Salvador came out, but I can't remember its name. All I can remember of this movie is a young girl getting shot outside of a school (which I think had been burned down) and of a woman trying to assassinate some sort of politician/military leader while seducing him but getting shot before she manages to stab him. I think there was also a scene of a bridge being blown up, but I'm not sure. I think the main character was some sort of James Woods-style journalist. Any ideas of which movie this might be?

That doesn't ring any bells, but if you haven't already you should check out Peter Weir's The Year Of Living Dangerously. That was what got me onto Salvador.

Anybody know any other film's in this style?

The Killing Fields (1984) is quite similar and just as gripping as Salvador and The Year Of Living Dangerously.

reply

The Killing Fields (excellent film) makes a nice counterpart to this. It's events and protagonist (Sydney Schanberg) are event mentioned several times in Salvador.

Under Fire (1983) is very similar - journalists and central american revolutionary war.

reply

Sounds like it could be the TV movie "Favourite Son" with Harry Hamlin and Linda Kozlowski

Under Fire, a couple years before, but similar

A tv movie was made about the churchwomen who were murdered in El Salvador. Can't remember the name.

"Romero" was a catholic church produced film about the arch bishop.

"El Norte" was a film about the civil war in Guatemala and a brother and sister who are forced to flee to the USA.

Can't think of anything that has a similar plot line.

Missing (1982) against the backdrop of Pinochet's coup in Chile.

The Official Story (1985) set in Argentina's military junta.

Carla's Song (1996) about a Nicaraguan refugee fleeing the Contras.

~ That's much too vulgar a display of power, Karras.

dunno... but the grittiness, suspense, and setting of salvador remind me of "Sorcerer" by WIlliam Friedkin

How about Witness in the War Zone, about Lebanon and has Christopher Walken as the journo lead. I saw these two about the same time and so always think of them together.. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092844/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_99
