Funniest scene

The part I found the funniest was Barbara describing the firing squad. What did you find funny?

Money is society's way of telling you 'You could do better!'

reply

Every scene with Bill Pullman.

Rocky VI must happen! Sean Penn said so!

reply

Agree totally! Best was when was robbing Judge Reinhold, with all the cops around.
Someone told me this was his first movie...

To be ridiculous is sublime.

reply

This could quite possibly be Judge Reinhold's best film. I love the scene were Sam plays the tape to his mistress, and the cheif of police is moaning on the tape, and all of the sudden he shouts "MORE" !!

reply

I love the part where Bette Midler is talking on the phone to her husband (DeVito) and she is asking him for the 2 million dollars or whatever the amount is and Helen Slater is frying burgers on the grill and it's making it sound like they're torturing her. It's so damn funny! She starts swearing and screaming at him and she says "Oh hunny they made me say that".... Good stuff!

"Shame on you. Shame on you. Shame on both of you!" - Julianne Moore from Magnolia

reply

This definitely isn't Judge Reinhold's first movie. RUTHLESS PEOPLE came out in 1986, and you're apparently forgetting he was in the first BEVERLY HILLS COP movie, which came out in late 1984. And how could you possibly forget FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH (1982)?????

Bottom line, I wouldn't place too much trust in whoever gave you that erroneous information (not to mention you're on the IMDB, and all you have to do is look up his film credentials!).

reply

I think that birdoberoi was referring to Bill Pullman when he said it was "his first movie".

And according to Pullman's bio page, it's correct (the only thing earlier was an appearance on Cagney and Lacey.)

reply

The best scene is when Barbra's talking about execution
"And sometimes with the firing squad, they miss ALL the major arteries, and you don't die right away, you just.. hang on, bleeding, bleeding...." hilarious!!!

and the bit about the 'San Quentin Country Club'

"with a cute little rear end like that you'll be the belle of the ball"!!

reply

Bill pullmans first movie he said, not judge reinhold :-)

reply

I could NOT agree more! Pullman was *SO* funny!

Cop: "This is the police!"
Earl Mott: "Really?"

reply

Yeah...then were off to Haiti

Not Haiti...Tahiti

I knew that!

reply

Rocky VI happened a long time ago.

reply

Funniest scene for me was when Bette Midler tried to escape for the first time. Hilarious!

reply

I loved when Bill Pullman tried to rob Judge Reinhold. Laughed so hard I cried!

"Insanity laughs; Under pressure we're breaking"
David Bowie

reply

No, no. It was Bill Pullmen's first movie.

reply

My favorite scene is when Bette Midler realized she is being "discounted". She's been kidnapped by K-Mart.

When I saw this in the theater, I swore I heard her say "I'm on blue-light special" but when I just watched it on Encore, I didn't hear it. Maybe it was a heckler in the theater.

I agree- when Judge Reinhold (clown) asks what the hell is going on, and Bill Pullman yells "I'M ROBBING YOU" cracks me up everytime i see it.

reply

I love when Sam wants Carol to buy him a big dog and he says, "I'm not asking you to screw the dog Carol!"

Remember, I have diplomatic immunity in 46 countries... including Puerto Rico.

reply

Reading that made me laugh so hard!!! That was so fuuny, when he said that!!

reply

Don't forget "it's for me."

It's spelled Raymond Luxury Yacht, but it's pronounced 'Throat-Warbler Mangrove'

reply

I thought it was hilarious when he bought the big dog (I think it was a doberman?).

"Muffy, meet Adolf. Adolf, EAT MUFFY!"

Hehehehe!

reply

YEAH!!!

I agree with you, it's one og the most funniest scenes ever, He He He ...

reply

This is one of my favorite movies & THE best part is when
Bette Midler loses the weight and becomes friends with her kidnapper due to her great fashion sense and she lets her go. Her husband almost crapped bricks when he found out!!!
I love when the bedroom killer gets in the house and she says
"He said I look like his mother. He hates his mother.
He said you look like his father. He hates his father.
Well, if you look like his father and I his mother this must be what our son would look like." Then she mutters something about birth control! It's HILARIOUS!

My name is Bill Clinton, and I'm reporting for booty.

reply

While the Pullman robbing Reinhold scene in front of the cops was hilarious (that blank stare when the cops yell down to him kills me "This may be the dumbest human being on the face of the earth!"), don't forget that hilarious and tasteless dialog in DeVito's office with that clueless cop, when the phone rings, it's a wrong number, and just hearing what he tells the caller is priceless, but I won't say it because it'll get censored.

reply

Oh yeah I remember that line. I won't say it either. I couldn't believe what I heard when I saw the movie the first time.

reply

I love the scene where Sandy has just told Ken that she let Barbara go! It's so funny just hearing him scream "OH MY GOD!!!!"

reply

oh yeah, and when the police are quesioning Judge Reinhold and he goes to the bathroom and says he has the stomach flew and tries to get out of the window. Then the cops get another lead and he's off the hook, he doesnt realize that. they go to the bathroom door to say theyre leaving and they hear him making all that noise. HI-larious!

reply

This film's SO full of funny scenes that I couldn't pick just one -- I agree with most of the ones that have been posted on this thread. Just wanted to say that what Bette Midler says here is, "...this must be what our son would look like. (Pause) Pretty strong argument for birth control."

Best,
Tim

reply

She mutters "Pretty strong argument for birth control."

reply

Lots of great scenes, but I gotta go with the opener, when Sam tells Carol about his unfortunate situtation. ("I had to live with that squealing, corpulent little toad all these years.")

reply

When Reinhold is stuck on the window pane and they think he's puking in the john.

"The dog's a little diabetic."

"I can't make it."
"What????"
"No can do."
"What!!!??"
"No deal."
"What???"
"No cashola!"

Bette beating the ship out of Devito in the background while the two oblivious cops talk about love and marriage.

"Let's be ass***es and get rich!"

"You can't afford it?? *beep* finance it!" I still say that when I can't pay for something outright :)

reply

I loved the part where Barbarra escapes 4 the first time & the part with the bedroom killer.

reply

My favorite part is when Ken is trying to sell those enormous speakers to that teenaged kid. The whole pitch was hilarious!!

"Check it out! Thirty inches of thigh slappin', blood pumpin', nuclear brain damage! If you can't afford it, *beep* finance it! Here's the best part... when you die, they can bury you in it!!"

Charlie Murphy!! *punch*
- Dave Chappelle as Rick James

reply

I still remember this movie as if it was yesterday that I saw it and it has been well over ten years, but when Bill Pullman says to the red head (I know she is deceased and I can't think of her name right now, she was just hysterical) "Then we're off, ta Haiti." She lloks at hims and says, "Not Haiti, TA-HEE-TEE." Also the part when she was trying to figure out what was wrong with the police cheif and she is talking out loud in front of Bill Pullman (again) and she says "Unless the police chief is an absolute moron, and absolute morons are extremley rare" and then the sideways glance at Bill, oh my God I can still see her do that to this day and laugh even as I am typing this. I loved this movie, "Fifi meet Adolf, Adolf eat Fifi" And of course "You can't afford it Bleeping finance it!" I say that in my head to this day.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you-do or do not there is no try.

reply

I would have to say the best part is when Barbra has just been kidnapped and she yells "When my Husband hears about this he will explode!" And then Same pops open a bottle of champangne..

reply

Yes, yes, yes! the 30 ft of nuclear brain damage was priceless! Especially when in waddles the boy's pregnant girlfriend, and Kessler realises that maybe today is not the day to make that sale....

reply

The whole scene where we see Barbara for the first time... "You, your entire family, everyone you ever KNEW will get chain saw enemas!" "Jesus Christ, it smells like a toilet in here!!" "Oh, my God.... I've been abducted by Huey and Dewey." Oh, and when she's calling Sam about upping the ransom. LMAO! Bette really is divine in this movie.
