Does not stand the test of time.

I just watched it again for the first time in 20 years. I disagree. I think it stands up pretty well. I laughed my ass off, just like I did 30 years ago.

reply

Yep, I agree, Crispin Glover had me rolling, and this movie is just as powerful today as it was then.

Nonsense...troll another board!

I just watched this movie for the first time and it friggin great. So no way

If you were around in 1987, you'd know it was NEVER more then a cult film even back then, so that criticism makes no sense.

First time I saw this 30 years ago I was rocked, as were a lot of my friends. It was a really edgy, somewhat disorienting film with a truly disturbing depiction of aimless adolescents in small town America. Upon 2nd viewing 30 years later, ooooh, the film has not aged well at all. The Jerry Springer type youth are no longer shocking and so the films flaws--especially the amateurish acting and direction become really noticeable.

reply

I agree.

It's on Amazon Prime now.

Loved this film in the 80's.
Not at all now, though Keanu Reeves was beautiful.

reply

it still holds up. This was made 30 years ago so they allow many more darker things on tv/film then they did back then. Rivers edge is still a film that's pretty rare

reply

Yes, you're right: It's still a film.

reply

Good One Maykasa still a GOOD film

reply

Watched it for the first time. There's nothing outdated about it

reply

I think it does stand the test of time, still a pretty powerful movie.

reply

Saw it today for the 1st time and I think it's brilliant, better than most Hollywood fare coming out today.
