Manningham lane

Was just wondering if anyone knew what the significance of Manningham lane was. in the scene where the big row kicks off on the estate, the mad old man on the balcony shouts "Send 'em up Manningham lane, best place for 'em." Sue's mum then shouts "Best place for you!"

I thought it was probably a red light area or something and that's why it would be insulting. Any thoughts?

reply

yes, manningham lane is the main significant red light dstrict in bradford. so it quite fits the two teenage sluts.

Manningham Lane was one of the boundaries of the old Bradford red light district, the main kerb crawling(not that I have done that, but I would see the women when I was driving home from work) route was on a road that ran parallel to Manningham Lane. The red light district of Bradford is now a little further away from Manningham Lane.

Maybe because this film made it all too well known, by just about everyone!!

they have all moved on to thornton road now lol

so someone told me lol

What is a wedding? The Dictionary describes a Wedding as the removing of weeds from a garden

Nothing to do with the film, its because Manningham Lane was the Yorkshire Ripper's favourite place to check out potential victims. As a result, in the late 70s and early 80s it was so full of undercover cops and roadchecks etc that the kerb trade eventually went elsewhere and even after the Ripper was caught, it never really came back.

Should have been Lumb Lane in those days actually, but Manningham Lane runs parallel, pretty much.
