Where did he and Helen live before the return? (And Andy, Jr., if he survived and other kids, if any.)

I seem to remember that he had been a postal inspector in Raleigh for 20 years.

It is specifically stated that Andy and Helen had been living in Cleveland, whre Andy worked as a "United States Postal Inspector."

That's true. And when Andy started having car trouble and pulled into Goob and Gome's filling station and garage the camera panned in on the Ohio license plate on Andy's car.

Didn't any of you watch the movie? He was in Cleveland, which was established when he talked to Opie in the newspaper office. Opie said "You've already quit your job in Cleveland." Now whether it was Cleveland Ohio or Tennessee is anyone's guess.
