An Updated Version?

I would like to see one, maybe in dramatic fashion this time. Andy is a widower for a second time, Barney, and Aunt Bea, of course, have passed on.

But even with just a few characters still living, I think a dramatic version could work.

Maybe even title it, "Andy & Opie."

I doubt it. Many more of the characters have passed on, and most that are still living are in retirement. I don't think the fans of the show would want to see something dramatic. Thats why alot of people loved the show, because it made them forget about their problems for 30 minutes and made them laugh.

Andy and Opie were one of TV's first great father-son duos (Ralph Kramden never had a son, Little Ricky Ricardo was never a significant character in "Lucy,") and it might be nice to do a Father's Day special where Opie, now in his late 50s, returns to Mayberry and spends an afternoon fishing with Andy, now in his 80s.

No plot, no villains, no Andy trying to be sheriff in his 80s, no guest stars, no cute wife or goofy kids for Opie; maybe a couple of brief clips from the original show to recall Barney and Aunt Bee; but mainly, just a father and son, still enjoying each other's company after all the years. Maybe a very brief mention of Opie's mother, finally giving her a name she never had in the series.

The show ends with the pair walking away from the lake, and Opie tosses a rock across the water, as the familiar whistling rises up.

The show debuted in September 1960. Maybe a 50th anniversary reunion?

Not to lower "The Andy Griffith Show" to the level of "The Brady Bunch", but they tried doing a semi-serious version of that sitcom. It was awful and flopped.

Most paranormal skeptics are terrified its all true and are desperate to prove otherwise

What was the name of the "semi-serious version" of The Brady Bunch? Are you referring to the reunion TV specials perhaps?

"The Bradys".

They were deliberately going for a dramatic tone in a dramatic series instead of a sitcom tone in a sitcom series but eventually added a laughtrack after a number of episodes without one. Even though it was supposed to be a deama tv series instead of a sitcom series.

What were they thinking adding a laughtrack to what was supposed to be a drama tv series???

Depends on your point of view.
