Guess the Marine Corp. didn't take

I was surprised that Gomer reverted back to his pre-Marine Corp. persona. I'd think that time would have changed him at least a little bit.
Made him alittle more worldly. But, nope, he was right back to being as oblivious as ever.

Yeah, I thought they should have at least had him wearing a USMC ballcap, maybe wearing his uniform at the wedding, with stripes and service marks to show he had been a career Marine. Then again, I doubt Nabors would have gone for the haircut a retired Marine would likely sport. Still, could you imagine Gomer with flashbacks to Vietnam?

"Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!"

>>>I was surprised as well. When Gomer was in the T.V. series Gomer Pyle USMC, he was still in the Marine Corp. Now, here is another question for you guys:

>>>On the show (Return to Mayberry), was Gomer still in the Marine Corp.? or was he discharged from them (USMC)?.

I'm not sure, but I think the answer might be on the tv series "Mayberry R.F.D.".

It's been years since I saw that show, but I do seem to remember some episodes (at least one) with Gomer on it.

Back in Mayberry again.

Gomer most likely was not able to re-up with the Marine Corp. My understanding is that at the time if you stalled out in terms of rank you were not offered the opportunity to re-up if enough years went by. Gomer most likely had been back in Mayberry well ahead of the movie. As to the OP, no, the training and attitude never took with Gomer. He was making mistakes and using bad judgement right until the end of the series. People get bent out of shape for how unrealistic they perceived the show to be but honestly it was not all that bad. Yes, he should have been moved to the mess hall or motor pool but the chemistry with Frank Sutton was too good to tamper with.

Too bad they didn't show Gomer being married to Lou Ann, his girlfriend while in the Marines. And if Frank Sutton had lived, they could have shown Sgt. Carter moving to Mayberry and becoming a business partner with Gome and Goob.

Not only that. They also have a lot more sense than city punks.

I don't recall there being any references to Gomer Pyle: USMC (1964). No mention of his sergeant or girlfriend.
