My least favourite Rohmer!

This just didn't grip me, neither did I find the depth or interestign dialogue of his other films.

This has always been one of my favorite Rohmer films. The first time I saw it the ending evoked an emotional response from me -- totally catching me by surprise. Do I think it's his best? No. I bought the box set of his moral tales and have collected many of his other films. Just want to have them handy in case I need a shot of Rohmer.

"Best film" is a hard call to make with Rohmer!

But I'd probably agree with you, more often than not -- and even if it's not his best film, it's the one that moves me the most deeply, and continues to do so over many years of re-watching. It has a quietly transcendent quality, a modest sort of transcendence, that seems to imbue all of life -- down to its most apparently trivial aspects -- with a luminous wonder.
