What does the original story and the comics confirm about Rawhead Rex?

Do they confirm what he is? Here are the suggestions I've found so far from reading about him:

A. He is indeed a pagan God.

B. He is a Devil from Hell.

C. He is a berserker-type Nightbreed.

D. A combination of any of the above?

E. Something else?

He's a prehistoric beast.

Pretty sure A and B are the same thing. The Christian God came along, and being jealous as He is, proclaimed that all the pagan gods the heathens were worshipping were just different manifestations of the devil, tempting them away from the one "true" God.
