I don't know. This subject opens up a converstion that is full of pitfalls. Sure, like anything there are good ones and there are bad ones but for myself strictly speaking and not offering opinion of anyone else's take on remakes in general it seems I'm more let down than not. Look at Red Dawn, Conan, True Grit, etc. Truely great movies (again this is only my meaningless opinion and is subject to ridicule) can't be duplicated for what they were.
Now, a sequel idea seems could have a better chance at success rather than attempt to re-create the original classic (yes, to me it's a classic).
I do agree with you, it deserves something more. If a remake did nothing more than create interest in the original for folks that had not been known about it or took the time to find it and view it I would consider even that much a success.
