Am I the only one who think this is a great monster flick?

Maybe because I have seen it when I was young and it scared the *beep* out of me, but even when reviewing it recently I thought it was a very good and better than a lot of others monster movies.

Not too typical, break some rules, has decent blood & gore, and the quick pacing made the movie entertaining.

Sure the mask look cheesy sometimes, but Belial looked cheesy in Basket Case, and others movies have a lot of cheesy things in them, but that just add to the charm I think...

I don't know if people hate this movie because Clive Barker said it sucked, but for me this is the best monster movie behind Pumpkinhead. I doesn't count Gremlins, Critters & Ghoulies because they are too small. I talk about human-sized monsters.

Barker always stated that this is not the story he had in mind. As a writer he may be really good, but as a director with the exception of Hellraiser which was awsome, he doesn't have made any real great horror movie. Nightbreed was OK. So i'm not that sure he could have made Rawhead Rex really stand out...

BTW, sorry my english is not the best.

I liked Raw Head Rex, it's one of those cheesy movies that's fun to watch. The part where he pees on the preacher was hilarious.

I must see this. Out of all the disgusting, vile *beep* that happens in the story, the preacher-pissing scene was the last thing I expected to be included in the film.

As far as horrors go this is brilliant i was *beep* scared of this film as a kid. Still a good watch

the films is not cheesy!!! It is so underrated. The Fx are great and the creature is awesome. I've seen my share of horror flicks and this is not cheesy compared to some of those i've seen.

My Top 5: 1. Dawn of the dead (original) 2. Halloween 3. Evil Dead 4. Phantasm 5. Rawhead Rex

Rawhead rex is awsome ive always loved this film how can you not love a film about an irish bodybuilding demon who pisses on a priest.

Its one of my faves in its genre for sure.

I don't find it cheesy, either. The monster is awesome and the effects are good for a 1980s film that wasn't super high-budget. I put it in with Pumpkinhead and The Unnamable, among the best late '80s horror flicks.

Hated it as a kid thought it was trash, however coming back to it at 33 it is in fact quite a fun monster movie. Having seen over 1000 horror films i can safely say Dude the FX are so not great and the creature well - LMFAO!!

Pumpkinhead *beep* rules, good call.

I agree with everything you have said. A fun horror movie.

Great monster flick. While the creature FX aren't far above Gorn level (from Star Trek TOS), the movie is still awesome and rather frightening if you are capable of a little suspension of disbelief... let yourself get absorbed in it a bit.

No, yue aren't, but those who like it, will like anything.

It was okay. Nothing fantastic, even as a genre piece, but ti was a fun camp-fest of a movie.

Still, I think Barker is a remarkable director. Hell, "Nightbreed" and "Hellraiser" aren't even as remarkable as "Lord of Illusions". all three horror classics, in my opinion.

I agree with you...especially in linking it with Pumpkinhead. Back in the late 1980s (early in my post-college working career) a college buddy would visit me a couple of times a year and I would find a couple of movies at one of the local video places. There for a whle I was on quite a roll, consistently finding surprisingly good little horror flicks neither of us had heard of ... like Rawhead Rex and Pumpkinhead.

I haven't seen it in 10-15 years (amazingly, Netflix, which has virtually EVERYthing, doesn't have it! I may have to buy a copy.) I'm not a big CGI or special effects person and haven't seen ALL the recent horror films. I tend to prefer the 1960s-1980s pix better. I don't remember the moster being fake looking. Of course I love the genre and WANT to suspend disbelief. I've never done a Top 25 horror movie list (I think I will, now that I mention it!), but old Rex verly likely would make my list if i did.
