I don't get why it was released in the mid-90s, i remember ranting this as a new movie, and i can tell you, it had ads and all, and it was around 94-95 ! A reason for this ? Bacon's success ?

I think your confusing this film for another one. The release date says "14 February 1986 (USA) ". I vaguely remember this movie being released during the eighties. It came and went rather quickly, but it was released during the eighties.
