We were having an 80's week watching favorite movies and I was excited to see this movie again. Apart from the 10 whole seconds Louis Anderson's character (which I still don't know what he does) appears, the scene where Gypsy buys the cat food is very interesting.
Toilet paper and Orange soda I can understand, but cat food opens the door to another movie.
Maybe I'm being too obsessive over this, but there are several possibilities that we must consider.
Does HE own the cat? If so what's his name? I would be shocked to find out it's a white Angora that he fusses over and takes to cat shows to compete for prizes. I suspect he keeps a cat for company because the cat doesn't judge him. Gypsy seems a bit insecure and he probably once had a severe stuttering problem and he keeps the cat around because of all they've been through.
I'm guessing Gypsy isn't an educated person or a tightwad feeding his cat Kal Kan. He could spend a little more and get a brand that ensures his feline receives all the necessary vitamins and nutrients to keep a glossy coat and white teeth, but hey, at least he's thinking of the cat and feeding him.
Does the cat know Gypsy is a drug dealing murderer? Does the cat care? Does Gypsy hide all this from his feline companion when he gets home?
There was another comment about Gypsy buying the food for himself, but I don't buy it. He was at the diner when he met Jamie Getz there.
Another question you have to wonder is what the cat's sex is. Is it a male? Female? In which case, is it spaded or neutered? What would Gypsy do with a litter of fluffy kittens? Can you see him going around the neighborhood trying to give them away?
