will there be another project a-ko movie

As I seen the 3 other movies and blue and grey tape

reply

You mean the three movies after the first one? There are six Project A-Ko movies altogether.

reply

I know that but will there be any more

reply

I don't believe A-Ko will be coming back. And if she does come back, she most likely won't be the same.

Great, am I so bad want a movie as good the original one in 1986

"Great, am I so bad want a movie as good the original one in 1986"
Was that a question?
Also, I wouldn't mind another Project A-Ko movie either. The first one is still a favorite.

reply

Maybe they can remake the first movie like they did Appleseed in computer graphics, I am sure it would look very good. Would be eaiser to show some of the examples of A-ko's powers.

Director and creator Yuji Moriyama has not announced going back to do a proper sequel. The subsequent series, even he has stated and admitted, his heart was not in it. The first movie was just a "let's put in everything we really want to see and go for broke, wing it!" because it's original story was that of a non-comedic soft-porn(thankfully, thankfully, it did not go in this direction) project but the president of(can't remember name of person or of what company but he is the president for a company that creates those huge telephone size manga that feature stories from many writers and artists decided to go with Moriyama's take of a science fiction heavy on the comedic and action side! Very Best Decision!!!!) The sequels are not as good and also the original staff is not the same. One of the animator's is actually Masumune Shirow creator of Dominion: Tank Police, Black Magic 666(WOW!!!!), and of course, Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell. All of the animators that worked on the first Project:A-ko were invited to try their hand on a wacky project that came to be known as such. It wasn't planned at all. Animators from other studios or people with no experience but wanted to go into animation and had skills were recruited right off the streets. Each sequence of animation was handled by some luminary that was unknown then but are superstars now like this little known person named Amano Yatada, one of the creators of Neon Genesis Evangelion, one of the creators and member of the SuperFanAnime GAINAX Studios!!! Project A-ko is well worth watching!!! And keeping as a reference source and as inspiration for aspiring animators, artists, movie makers, and general enthusiasts and afficianados!!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm out......

There is also the issue of the copyright laws that came up later in time. Unless they get permission from lots and lots of anime, we will never see another sequel.

reply

Wow!!!

Take a breath... switch to decaf... just kidding.

Great post, I had no idea that Masumune Shiro (Doesn't that mean White or Dead Girl?) was involved. That explains the strong females characters, and the excellent Mecha.

I just love the first A-Ko. OTT silliness, Shoujo-ai, and all.

reply

They had many people on the production staff that ultimately went on to do bigger and better things. I assume the names Kia Asamiya and Hideaki Anno mean something to you. The main mech designer worked heavily on Macross. The director's commentary sheds a whole lot of light on Project A-Ko.

reply

man I so badly want another one

Only the first movie is the very best because of the inspired spontaneity and go for brokeness of it. I LOVE Project A-ko!!!!!

The Gray/Blue sequels killed the series, as you'll read on wikipedia. But it seems like the kind of thing that could easily be revived, and done very well.

For example, anybody else heard about Cities Of Gold getting a feature film treatment? Its last new episode was in the early-1980s. It was rebroadcast on Nickelodeon in the late-1980s -- I remember watching it after school as a little kid. I know "A-Ko" wasn't a TV series, but you get the idea.

I couldn't agree with you more about the Battles series.

I get a little sentimental and nostalgic with this movie. I think it was one of the first animes I ever saw. I remember having a crush on B-ko, the artwork for her character was really good. I really liked the soundtrack too, I remember liking the 'dance away' song, then I figured it was a song written specifically for the american version, but now that I have the box set containing all the japanese a-ko movies, that song (with japanese lyrics) is actually part of the movie.
It's such a shame about the sequels, they are really bad and manage to mess up the storyline beyond repair.

reply

I want to know where I can get an mp3 of the end-credits song of the first movie :D

reply

*bump*

Anybody?

reply

I don't know, but try using some peer to peer applications like soulseek and emule (google them)

reply

Ugh. :| I have Limewire. Does that count?

reply

yep, it counts ;)

reply

Probably not.

The first one was meant to be a "one off" and nothing more. Then the people who made it tried to find new jokes, but wound up really putting the characters and setting on the fast track to wackiness, even for a piece of anime like this (which is just out there to begin with).

The first sequel was passable, but felt forced. The others (which I finally saw years after they were released) were just "milking the franchise", and really didn't have anything much to offer. That and it appears the character designs and animation style had changed.

The first film is enough and stands on its own. It's a crazy movie, even for Japanese sex-comedy scifi anime. Once you poke fun of all the genres in anime, what do you have left to work with? And that's why I think the series is done with, and probably should have stuck with one sequel and left it at that.
