One good thing about the changed ending

It's really difficult to tell which one she's going to end up with. Usually it's quite easy to tell, but it was nice that here it was really difficult to say. I was thinking it was pretty much all set up for the Jon Cryer character, actually.

It's interesting that if one were to map this story to Pride & Prejudice,
Duckie would be Collins
Blane would be Bingley
Steph would be Darcy

I wish that they had gone with the original ending and Andy ended up with Duckie, but at the same time, it probably was best that way. In real life Molly Ring didn't like Jon Cryer nor did Andrew Maccarthy. It really shows in the movie as well, it's like they're hardly even acting. I really liked the character of Duckie, even though he could be too pushy sometimes, he truly cared about her. He was probably best with someone else anyways.

It's funny you put Duckie with Mr. Collins, it's way too fitting.

That's a good point, yes.

Thanks! :)

Great idea to place the characters in P&P. Here are my thoughts ........

Duckie would be Collins
Steff would be Wickham
Blane would be Darcy

About the ending. In this video I cannot even believe how Molly Ringwald comes across. She basically says that as long as Robert Downey, Jr. was supposed to be Duckie, she was all in for the original ending because he's "so cute." When Jon Cryer, became Duckie, it just "wasn't going to work." She goes on to say that her relationship with Jon Cryer wasn't like what was required for the movie. Gee, I wonder if she's ever heard of ACTING??? Here's the video.......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsF7x20MAi8

I do wonder if the original ending had If You Leave by OMD like the redone ending did. Best 80s song, hands down, no contest.

It was more about the visual impression of the two actors together. Visually Cryer and Ringwald look like a brother/sister team rather than potential romantic partners. No amount of acting was going to change the fact that they had no chemistry to their relationship. Cryer also looked very young and immature. Ringwald's character was not and there was no reason why she would find Cryer's baby act attractive.

I never understood why any of the guys would be interested in Andy. She dresses like a grandma, has a nasty attitude and I'm sorry but Molly Ringwald is not attractive. Never understood the fascination with her in the 80's. Yuck.

I never thought she was attractive either. But John Hughes thought she was and why he pushed her in everyone's faces. She must of looked like a girl he had a crush on when he was in high school.
