song

can someone please help me with the song that has playing for keeps in the lyrics.

reply

the song is called 'Say The Word' and it's by Arcadia, which was an offshoot of the famous 80's pop group Duran Duran, formed in 1985. (Arcadia recorded only one album, and 'Say The Word' isn't on it, but you can find the MP3 of the song on www.duranduran.no, under the Arcadia section, if you're interested)

Here are the lyrics, in case you're interested:

Say The Word

Theres a skill, its nothing we could learn at school
With a will to survive beneath this rule
Money thrives as corruptions president
Waste the life of the young and innocent
But after all and the resistant can be disobeyed
So, when we call, please dont think twice or be afraid
Hey, mister, say something

Say the word - if your eyes are open
Say the word - before this love is broken

(Say the word)

The lights are down, but you dont sleep so tight
The words around that we play for keeps tonight
As we all know even the best made plans go wrong sometimes
But if it blows well be the ones they victimize
Hey, mister, say something

(chorus)

To put this right
(Ha!)

The song "Say The Word" was written and recorded specifically for the film PLAYING FOR KEEPS. It is on the soundtrack album, which was released in the U.S. on Atlantic Records.

what is the name of the song that plays over when the boys are playing hide and seek

reply

"It's Not Over" by Chris Thompson. You can find a cover of this song by Starship "It's Not Over ('Til It's Over)" from 1987.

reply

are they both the same song

reply

Yes they are.

I have a copy of the PLAYING FOR KEEPS soundtrack on CD, and most of the songs have either "play for keeps" or "playing for keeps" somewhere in the lyrics.

reply

I have the soundtrack on vinyl, and it's a terrific musical snapshot of the era – better than the film, I must say. My only complaint is it doesn't have my favorite song from the film, "Best Kept Secret" by China Crisis, which plays briefly over the end credits.

I'll have to listen to the sountrack again to spot the mentions of "play/playing for keeps."
