Top 3 Vietnam War Movies

1) Apocalypse Now
2) Platoon
3) First Blood

reply

First Blood wasn’t a Vietnam War movie.

It was a post-War film about PTSD and the mistreatment of and disrespect towards returning vets.

#3 should be “Full Metal Jacket”.

reply

First Blood just analyzed a different aspect of the war, it was still a Vietnam film.

reply

It is a stretch to call First Blood a "Nam film".

reply

Not really.

reply

1). Platoon
2). First Blood
3). The Deer Hunter / Apocolypse Now

Full Metal Jacket fell off in the second half.

Yes — I consider first blood a Vietnam War movie. The aftermath of a war means as much as the war itself.

To add to what has been mentioned already, in no particular order:

Bat 21
Air America
Rescue Dawn
Born on the Fourth of July
Casualties of War
Good Morning Vietnam
Hamburger Hill

Worst:

Operation Dumbo Drop

reply

1) Apocalypse Now
2) Platoon
3) First Blood

Of course there are others that are worth checking out, like:

We Were Soldiers
Casualties of War

reply

1. Full Metal Jacket
2. Hamburger Hill
3. Green Berets

Not a fan of Platoon.

Apocalypse Now
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon

These are my picks also

First Blood wasn't a Vietnam war movie. Apocalypse now was based on Heart of Darkness which was set in 19th century Africa. So Platoon qualifies. My other two would be Full Metal Jacket and Born on the Fourth of July.

reply

First Blood was a Vietnam War movie imo. The protagonist was a Vietnam War vet whose entire life, personality, & social status was shaped by his war experience. The movie had a some flashbacks of the war too.

First Blood is as much a Vietnam War movie as Deer Hunter.

reply

1) Go Tell The Spartans
2) Boys in company C
3) The Odd Angry Shot

reply

How is First Blood not a Vietnam film but Born on the Fourth of July is? Both of them primarily take place after the main character comes back from the war.

reply

I can understand the debate over First Blood, but it's ridiculous to claim that Apocalypse Now is not a Vietnam War film. It's the best one ever made. The setting of the source material is irrelevant.

1. Full Metal Jacket
2. Casualties of War
3. The Deer Hunter
