Military Camo Uniforms

So some US Marines (and even the US Army) wore multi coloured camouflage uniforms such as these in the PTO in late World War II:

or

So why didn't any Marines or Soldiers wear any multi coloured uniforms in Vietnam perfect for the jungle? They were just wearing Green like this:

Anybody know why? Thanks.

It's a simple question as to why the US Army and the Marines in particular didn't have Camouflage uniforms like you saw on their helmets and blankets of US Marines in World War II in the PTO...

There were camouflage uniforms used in Vietnam, they were just less common than the standard "OD Green" uniforms. One pattern seen fairly commonly is not unlike the "Woodland" pattern that we wore through the 80s - mid 2000s. But the most iconic camo pattern from Vietnam is definitely the "tiger stripe" pattern worn by many "special operations" troops (the SEALs were especially known for it).

Having worn the OD uniform for two years as Opposing Forces at the Joint Readiness Training Center, I can tell you that it actually works pretty danged well in medium to heavy forest/swamps (this was at Fort Polk, in east central Louisiana). Tiger stripe works very well in palm heavy areas, and areas with a lot of deep shadow, and so was a good fit for many areas of Vietnam.
