Brahms and Mahler

I loved Parting Glances when I first saw it, 20 years ago, it is one of my favorite movies.

I recently purchased the DVD, and I am amazed how this talented director
chose Mahler Symphony 7 and Brahms Piano Quartet in g minor for it.
And very successfully.

May I ask any of you if you were surprised by this musical choice?
What do you think?
