Does anyone know which piece is it ?
J.S. Bach, BWV 539 Prelude. For some reason Tarkovsky liked his Bach extremely slow, at least in every case which I can think of. I have heard slow interpretations of Bach, but in Tarkovsky's films the music is almost stretched out beyond effectiveness, maybe recognition too. I know Bach left liberal instructions as to the performance of his music, but there's no way in hell this would've flown in his time. Otherwise I like Tarkovsky's films.
shareThank you for the answer. I don't know this piece very well. But indeed, in the opening credits, Matthaus Passion is played very slowly.
I don't remember Johannes Passion being particularly slow in "The Mirror". Can't remember about the organ piece in "Solaris" neither.
I truly love Tarkovsky's works.
