Not like any of John McTiernan's other movies!

Is this a good case of the early work of an ambitious experimental director, before getting sucked into the Hollywood machine and making more conventional (but still frequently brilliant) mass-appeal movies? I wonder at the thought processes of who ever hired him to direct Predator after seeing Nomads, what a strange (but very successful) choice.

Schwarzenegger said in his autobiography "Total Recall" that he was so impressed with the atmosphere & professionalism of the low-budget "Nomads" -- directed and written by McTiernan (his first film) -- that he convinced the producers to hire McTiernan to helm "Predator."
