Finale question

Does Eddie fight with Losado at the finale or does he just shoot him? I'm having trouble finding the movie, so I thought I'd ask.

Thanks a lot. I do hate to ask such questions but like I said I am having trouble renting it. Thanks again.

Eddie Gillete and Losado do, in fact, fight in the end. Gillette kills Losado by stabbing him in the throat with the knife used to butcher his partner. Before leaving the burning hotel room with Michelle(Kim Bassinger), he pins his partner's badge on Losado's lapel.

Hope this helped.

At this point I had in fact managed to see the movie, but thank you for the response anyway. I thought it was cool what he did with the badge. "See that *beep* lol Thanks again.

I think he might have. Partly because he pitied her having been nothing more than Losado's woman. They probably just thought it would seem strange if he didn't stay with her, especially after she tried to save him at the end.

You're giving this flick too much credit. It was just a crowd pleaser based on the "tough guy saves damsel in distress" formula. Whether they stay together or not didn't matter - it's a film supposed to offer instant gratification and no food for thought afterwards.

I do not think Eddie pitied Michelle, he does not understand her or her culture. The scene where she almost drank the water because she could not read, then where she told him she is not a w---e is where he starts to understand things. "This is all about you isn't it?"He was attracted to Michelle the first time he sees her in the restaurant. He is also likes the fact she is tough ( which she shows when she slaps him). The reality is Eddie not only falls in love with, but needs Michelle. Like many "Lone Wolf" type cops he does want to die (although not in New Orleans). He even says "I will die on a Chicago pavement." She gives him a reason to live and he is honest to her about his flaws, and admits to forgetting important days, not cooking and yelling at those he cares about. Those are some of the reasons his wife left him ( even his boss does not like him). When he used the bad guy's knife and killed the baddie and stuck the badge of his murdered partner on him, he freed himself of guilt and Michelle from being property. Michelle is the exact opposite of Eddie: She is very perceptive ( she knew Eddie's partner was married despite having no ring and she knew Eddie was not a bad guy underneath it all ( which is a big reason she agreed to go back to Chicago and start over fresh with him)). She also rarely spoke. Usually in cop movies the cop is laconic while the person with him talked a lot ( especially if it is a woman). Here it was Gere who did all the talking and Kim only spoke when necessary. It's another example of opposites attract.
