I'm sorry, but Molly was not a good friend.

Molly is Elizabeth's roommate, colleague, and supposedly her best friend, but what best friend sleeps with their best friend's ex-husband the first time you meet up with him alone then gets into a relationship with him without considering Elizabeth's feelings? Her ex-husband is just as much to blame. It almost seemed like he did it to get back at Elizabeth for not wanting to get back together with him. I don't care if Elizabeth encouraged Molly to go that dinner in lieu of her going. Ex-spouses and ex-partners are off-limits.

On the flipside, you could say that Elizabeth is blame because she was the one who suggested it in the first place, so she shouldn't have sent her thirsty insecure best friend to go see her depressed lonely ex-husband to talk about her behind her back and/or do God knows what. I don't exactly disagree, but Molly could have went on that date and kept it friendly. I don't know who initiated the sex because Molly didn't go into detail, but she couldn't have possibly thought that Elizabeth would be hundred percent A-OK with it. Even when Molly told her what happened, Elizabeth looked shocked and probably hurt before she said that comment about Molly's mom would love him because her own mom sure did.

And even if Molly and Elizabeth's ex got drunk and it was a big mistake, you don't just start dating your best friend/roommate/colleague's ex-boyfriend to the point where he's picking you up where both you and your friend work for all to see. I think that was the scene where Molly transform into literal human trash for me. Here you are dolling yourself up for apparently "no reason", he shows up, Elizabeth makes a comment about saying she doesn't want to deal with him, and you say, "Oh, he's here for me." Then you go off on your date without so much as a second glance in Elizabeth's direction.

That was a really awkward *beep* scene.

I don't think the movie focused on that whole situation enough. I think Elizabeth was so wrapped up in her jacked-up relationship with John that her reaction to the whole situation was very tame and unfinished. Who needs a slimy friend like that in their life?
