What about the cat?!

Alright, I saw this in Niagara Falls during a family vacation when I was little. This past weekend me and my boyfriend saw the same movie. I was surprised that they are still showing the same film after all these years since technology has only gotten better.

Aside from that, my original point is in the scenes with Annie Edson Taylor and its obvious difference in the cat she brought with her in the barrel. No one else in the theatre seemed to had noticed it except for me and my boyfriend, to the point where we literally looked at each other and said "Uhhhh whaaat?". As Annie is getting in the barrel she asks to have Henry, a tiny black kitten,to go down the falls with her. After Annie goes over the falls, people open the barrel to get Annie out....and then a giant adult white cat with spots comes out of the barrel...and then they cut to the next scene like no big deal...WHAT THE EFF?

I know this scene and I believe it was meant to be a joke, as in the cat was so terrified to go over the falls that it lost the pigment in its fur, kinda like people that have been through a traumatic event sometimes get patches of grey hair. I'm 99% sure that's what they were implying by that.
