Few Questions: The package at the post office and Michael?

I definitely missed these parts. What was in the package that Anthea took to the post office? Ms Marple later goes there to pretend it was hers etc, pretends it was "sent to the wrong place". The lady at the post office says: it was sent to the Eastham Women's & Childrens Clothing Appeal to the Rev Matthews.

Then when the godson goes to question that man cleaning floors, the man says something along the lines of how can he know Raf, but don't know what he does? I'm guessing help the poor in some way?

Marple also says, that "Rafield wanted justice for his son, even if it meant sending Michael to the gallows"....?! What did he do that was so bad?
