A Few Things

Just finished watching this movie for the first time, here are a few thoughts:

1. Funny to see an ex James Bond and an ex James Bond villain chew the fat as if it were normal.

2. Did the movie intentionally make allusions to Sherlock Holmes, or is it the tumor in my head growing still? I dunno, but the fact that Connery's name is "William of Baskerville" reminiscent of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" and that he uses words such as "elementary" seems fishy to me. Add to that his deductive skills and the allusion is obvious.

3. Most stupid death of a bad guy in a movie (Gui)?

4. Speaking of the devil (Gui), Salieri, not content with burning people for fun in the name of God, will proceed by killing Mozart several centuries later, but in the name of music this time. Geee, F. Murray Abraham was really the go-to evil guy in the 80's, wasn't he?

5. Ron Perlman did a good job again after his previous collaboration with J.J Annaud in Quest for Fire, which I slightly prefer to this one.

6. The horrors of dogmatism and religious fanaticism leave me speechless, as usual.

7. Beautiful ending: "And yet, now that I am an old, old man, I must confess that of all the faces that appear to me out of the past, the one i see most clearly is that of the girl of whom I've never ceased to dream these many long years. She was the only earthly love of my life, yet i never knew or ever learned... her name." Just beautiful and touching.

8. All and all, pretty good movie, i understand the praise. 7/10.
