Symbolic? After Johnny and Omar's first kiss - in the car

After Johnny and Omar kiss, and the scene that follows, the next scene is in Omar's car. They talk and then Johnny gets out of the car to go home.

Johnny walks by a high metal fence that is bright rainbow-colored and partially lit by a street lamp. He then passes into the shadows where a dark rainbow-colored, higher metal fence surrounds the building where he lives. Johnny climbs up into a back window and disappears, and Omar drives off.

The sets, lighting, etc., had to have been intentional, don't you think? When symbolism isn't too " in your face" obvious, or used too often, I appreciate its use. I appreciated that scene very much.
