I liked it a lot

This was definitely a very unsual film, with a very cool premise that was executed very well. Ford was great (maybe the best I've seen from him yet) as was the supporting cast. I'm not as good as expressing my opinions as other's are, so I really can't give an indepth review as to why I enjoyed it so much, but there was something about this film that kept me watching all the way through without getting bored one single minute. I will say that I think it's a great character study. Anyway, I give it an 8/10. I look forward to more of Weir's work.

Same here.

Although most of the entire plot is unrealistic, it's still a pretty cool movie.

Same rating. Its premise had a slight feel of a Herzog/Kinski movie, but it has a lot more going in relation to Science and intellect vs. Faith and Religion, though Ford's character ironically wants the same hero-worship and 'do as I say' as religion teaches. It's a bold movie, mostly for Ford as he's never been quite as unlikeable but still sympathetic somehow, since he is so smart and wants to do right, but mucks it up with his ego.

Darn good movie! I really enjoyed the performances from the actors! They really took you there! As for it being unrealistic, it was in some ways but in others some of what happened is certainly possible to happen in real life. As with fate and destiny it could happen that way, too.

Loved this movie. It had an almost existentialist motif.. a man of straight lines and right angles trying to fit into a crooked world. Wish there were more non formulaic-commercial movies of this type made in hollywood!

I like that the film, in common with the novel, managed a sort of Conrad/Melville thing, with some Shakespearean tragedy mixed in, but was firmly placed in the late 20th century. It's really a key eighties movie of a completely different kind.

A very good film. It was Harrison Ford's favorite amongst his films.

I just can't fathom the haters -- or the 6.6 ratiung on IMDb!
