Horrible Movie

I saw this movie a few years ago and to this day I still hate it. This is without a doubt one of the worst movies I have ever seen. A word to the wise if you have yet to see it pass it up trust me on this.

I am like the only person in my family(and about the only person I've met) that does not like this movie. My family rented it, and I sat through it. I don't hate too many movies, but I out right hated this one.

reply

Yes it is and I do agree. Bad acting too.

I remember watching this as a kid after it left the theaters, and I was a young kid at the time. Had to have been in Junior High.

I remember sitting stunned in the living room. The acting was. So. Great.

I couldn't believe I was seeing something with so much passion. Harrison Ford and River Phoenix. It was amazing for me to see something like that at that age.

I thought that that was what movie making was all about. The passion of telling a story. No matter what the story was. I still think this is a great movie to this day and can see why it's Harrison Ford's favorite.

I'm not tooo sure why people find it boring, etc. I was absolutely glued to the tv. I felt the same way when I saw The Killing Fields and Empire of the Sun. Magnificent movies.

Its a good film. This was one of the most interesting characters that Ford has ever played.

I watched this about 4 or 5 years after it was released with a few friends. I thought back then it was just ok, and was a little disappointed as Harrison Ford was a bit different this time round. I think i enjoyed it better then as i was much younger, and hadn't seen if any, films of this nature.

I saw it again the other day, and for a film close to 2 hours not very much happens. It is rather dull, slow and boring. The acting however is top notch all round, but the dull (if thought provoking story) feel of the film hovers over it. If you are after something a bit different than the usual glamour, then this is for you, just wasn't a worth while way to spend 2hrs again for me.

It's one of those films which is better if someone tell's you in detail about it rather then acutally watching it. It would save you a lot of time.

Perhaps you haven't seen any bad movies. You might want to give us a hint as to why you think this is a bad movie, or even give us some assurance that you can be trusted in your judgments. Of course it is easy to pick on your post, seeing as how it is useless dribble, but I did give a read to some of your respondents and for the most part I'd say that the more enlightened ones believe this is a pretty darn good movie, and you can put me down as on their side.

I get the impression that folks expected to see a certain kind of adventure movie starring Harrison Ford doing his schtick, which he does so well. But this is not that kind of movie. It is a drama which ends with a kind of lesson for us. It gives us an inkling of how our mind works. I thought the film had much to offer. If you've seen The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tilda Swinton, it has the same sort idealism associated with it, and has the same sort of conclusion, though in my view not nearly as well done. For the reason mentioned, they are both better than Blue Lagoon, but the latter movie has a different sort of appeal.

Also, since it seems you were expecting a Disney movie, I think you might have appreciated that the hero really did win out in the end, namely the narrator, as played by River Phoenix who would be able to take what he learned from it and move on to greater things. I might pose a question for you, supposing you had lived through the same experience as a young man. Could you have handled it? Would you be like his little brother or the twins, or could you be a hero yourself?

I saw the movie and read the book. Both are great.

I saw this movie in the theater in '86 and it stunk. Note how the film corps promoted it back then.

Stunk then and I won't spend the money to see it again. All kinds of psychological mumbo jumbo. The film corp advertised the movie in a far different way like an Indiana Jones type experience than it actually was. Boy were they wrong but they got our money. What a waste of time and money. We should have asked for our money back it was so bad. Yeah all the actors were good actors but that is like saying "Since I'm drinking the best vintage wine in a garbage strewn alleyway then this alleyway is a classy place to hang out". A big thumbs down and raspberry for this schlock format cinema piece. If I saw this movie for sale in the $1.00 VHS movie bin at the video rental place I wouldn't even buy it just for the satisfaction of destroying yet another copy of an overblown piece of junk. At least with a B rated movie you know going in that you're getting garbage. Not so with this one. I cannot believe that some folks consider this to be the best movie of all time. If that is their view then Citizen Kane should be considered an infomercial for greedy rich guys. Nuf said- DON'T WATCH IT.

agreed

The guy was an Idealist. That's the key word here. If one isn't an idealist, they shouldn't watch the film. If you can't understand "psychological mumbo jumbo" then watch something else. I don't EVER get disappointed in movies, because I don't tune in to Iron Man, or even Indiana Jones, because that's not my bag. Don't watch trailers, they're a marketing ploy. Find out about movies the right way.

What a useless review. No where do you say why you didn't like it, just a paragraph of you over exaggerating.

horrible i dont know, but it really didnt offer much

I would have to deem this film to be more disappointing than horrible. It has too many significant ideas and aspirations to ever be called "horrible."

The reason for my disappointment was because I read the novel shortly before the film came out and had definite ideas of my own on how I would have liked to have seen the story on screen, not least of all Harrison Ford's performance was not how I pictured the father at all.

Also, I can't forgive them for omitting the final, shocking image of Allie's fate at the very end of the book (symbolically, it encapsulates the whole tragic message of the story and says, Look--here is the final outcome for fools who think they have "vision.").
