I think this movie would be held in a much higher regard if it wasn't for the awful score that destroyed any tension there might have been in the film and doused the lighter moments with cheese. They re-master and restore films all the time. Well I think Lumet should rescore this film and re-release it.
I liked the score itself, though it may not be appropriate for this particular film. The main problem with the film isn't the score, it's the script. How the murder was committed and how the body wound up in the shower in Alex's apartment, her returnng to the loft to clean up after, Bridge's character being a racist for no particular or believable reason, and Fonda emerging from the drag queen's apartment with a tailored pant suit(the very thing "Frankie" wouldn't wear)...Even with a better or different score the film would still have the same gaps in tone and logic.
I coulldnt agree more with the original poster!! But plot etails also did tke away, the stuff the 2nd poster mentioned plus Bridges' unnecessarily suspicious behaviour
I agree as well. I commented to my boyfriend that the music seemed more appropriate for a romantic comedy. I was set to watch a thriller, though only got through fifteen minutes because the mood, enhanced greatly by the music, was so cheesy. Maybe I'll give it another try in the future... but maybe not.
Yeah, the score was awful. She wakes up next to a man who has been stabbed to death and minutes later soft adult contemporary music is playing during the opening credits? It completely ruined the mood.
Yep, the music feels very off--like it doesn't apply--like it's making light of the situation. I found that distracting. It should be more edgy or dark.

Got to agree. I was watching it on Netflix just now, and the music during the opening credits was so horrible I had to pause it to investigate whether there was any reason to endure more of it. Too bad Lumet's gone, no one will dare change it now.
