What is the accent?

I really like this film. I just watched it after a about a 6 year absence. It always takes me about 15 minutes to get into the rhythm of the speech, and then I can understand what is being said. Can someone tell me what the accent is? What region that pattern of speech is used? Of course I'm American and although I speak what is called English here, it certainly sounds different.

Hi Amalfi01. Mona Lisa is set in London but the accents in the film are fairly varied. Bob Hoskins and Michael Caine's characters speak with a 'Cockney' accent which originates in East London, however Simone seems to almost have a 'Brummie' accent, which comes from Birmingham in the west Midlands of England. To confuse the matter further Thomas' character (Robbie Coltrane) has a thick Scottish accent. Overall I guess its a British speech pattern, but the nature of Britain and places like London means a lot of different accents are encountered depending on where in the country you originate from and other stuff like ethnicity and social status.
Hope this helps, Tom.

Yes it does Tom. Thanks.

I'm not sure the character Simone's accent is Brummie. The actress Cathy Tyson is from Liverpool, and I think the accent used is a light Scouse.

"Do you want to go to the toilet, Albert?"

Michael caine has a south london accent not a cockney one.
