I liked it more for...

the fact that it showed where Jodie Foster was in her career, than for the actual movie. The direction was not great, but the story had potential. The filmmaking itself was sad, sad, sad. The performances were pretty good, but John Lithgow is such a good actor...I feel he was reduced to a loudmouth blowhard, instead of showing the nuances of the larger-than-life character--a characterization which could've been acheived by a more adept director. It just seemed as if all he was doing was yelling, and it became irritating.

Also, I wish there was a bit more background on both these characters. There didn't seem to be enough explanation. With what the audience was furnished, there was barely enough information for supposition. This movie lacked character development and backstory.

I think the movie is great. Isn't long and is very interesting.

the movie definitely deserved a widescreen DVD release. maybe it'll be re-released?

I just bought this movie today at a Second Hand Bookstore - for about $2.00. I was just telling somebody about my theory that Jodie Foster has NEVER Made a BAD Movie! So seeing the mixed reviews on This Movie, I am about to Test that theory. I love the Wide RANGE of Characters she has played from "Nell" "Contact" "Inside Man" "The Brave One" "Panic Room" "Paper Moon" "Hotel New Hampshire" "Silence of the Lambs" -- all incredible Movies; and Most recently "Nim's Island" which I also loved. I can't say the same for some other Stars I Follow like Rachael Leigh Cook or Kirsten Dunst - I've seen MOST of their Movies and there are some Losers in there. So this is my Best Shot at seeing Jodie Foster in a Weak Movie, huh? I hope to report back, and maybe it's time to check off a list and see everything else she has that's still available on DVD. I haven't even seen "Taxi Driver" and it's been so long since I saw "Foxes" or "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice" that I can't even remember her Characters.

Lol's; I win for paying the least amount for this. Walmart: $1. I lose for spending a dollar of my hard earned money on this turd. While I generally love B movies and wasn't expecting much out of this in the least, I have never before experienced such a craptastic film that just wasn't interested in telling any story. It just...putzed around the entire 90 minutes.

The movie is awesome for one thing and one thing only: Billy the Kid (Dan Shor). Hot stuff right there.

"I was just telling somebody about my theory that Jodie Foster has NEVER Made a BAD Movie!"

Alas, some six years after your comment along came "The Beaver". BAD doesn't even begin to describe that trash heap.

Agree, this movie was worthy of being watched only because of the sight of the then young and lovelier Jodie Foster. (John Lithgow has some good scenes too). But the story, and the film itself is just meh.
5/10
