Not all???

I don't understand why not all of the vehicles in the movie we're takin over.... The married couple's car and the Bible salesman their cars were just fine but even cars that were junked were able to still flash their headlights in one scene

Because it's an 80's horror movie..there is absolutely no logic to it whatsoever haha.

The movie wasn't planned well or made well. They didn't take time to actually work out story continuity. Just try to enjoy it for the action and mayhem.

Oh I do enjoy it, its always been one of my favorite movies

Maibe they only get "alive" when no one is driving them... even the truck only started folling around after the drivers left.

Am I remembering right that we never see a vehicle get "possessed" while a driver was behind the wheel? Aside from the kid on the bike (which could equally be a legitimate crash rather than the bike flipping him on purpose)?

Although this isn't a movie where one should worry about logic, I think the best explanation is that whatever was taking remote control of machinery didn't want to "fight" a human operator, hence only vehicles that were unmanned became possessed.

It might be worth noting that even the electric carving knife "came to life" sitting on the bench, not in anyone's hands... Same for all the guns in the movie.
