remake

just wondering if anyone else thinks there could be the potential for an interesting remake here if done with the right director/producer/cast? thoughts?

reply

why?

Because that's how human minds work, they wonder about things, they're curious to find out what other minds are thinking.

Anyway, to answer the OP, I'm never against the idea of a remake. I'm not one of those folks who believe that remakes somehow negatively impact precursor films. I love this film and I'd definitely be interested in seeing a well-done remmake, especially if a number of things are changed about it--I always prefer remakes that try to do something different with the material.

1. In my opinion, films are never the kinds of things that are needed or necessary.
2. Films do not have to bear any particular relation to the actual world.

First off, if you want to say that films have to bear some particular relation to the actual world, with that not being qualified in some way, you'd need to argue not about whether I or anyone else would like it, but why it's impossible to make a film that doesn't bear some particular relation to the actual world (and in the course of doing that, you'd also have to specify the particular relations that are impossible to ignore). It would have to amount to a physical law, basically. Whether I'd like something has no bearing on whether a film has to do something. It's irrelevant to that.

I didn't say anything about what I'd like in that comment that you're responding to. But while we're at that, I don't like or dislike anything based on whether I think it's "relevant" to anything in the actual world.

By the way, yes, I have seen Stan Brakhage films, for example.

In some circles around here (like on FG), I'm well known for arguing that it's moronic to criticize films for deviations from what we believe to be true of the actual world. Here's a thread where I go into this in detail (actually not from FG, but from the Roger Ebert message board). If you want to get into a big discussion about it, read this first: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001170/board/flat/173294269

Hey disdress, screw you! No more remakes and leave them classic alone!

reply

In due time. They are already remaking "Colossus: The Forbin Project".

to see this converted to the Post-9/11 era would be quite a spectacle if you ask me. as it's not deemed a classic like Carrie, but a cult classic, it would probably translate a lot better to today.
