Malcom's house - demolished

I travelled to Melbourne recently and made a pilgrimage to 23 Napoleon Street in Collingwood, Malcolm's address and the one shown on the envelope to Frank from the Department of Corrections. It is easy to recognise the street scenes in the movie. The high rise housing on the other side of Wellington Road from Napoleon street, the building that was Mrs T's shop and Jenny's house. The bend at the top can be recognised although there is b a building project to house yuppies and dinkies in medium rise boxes under construction on the outside of the bend. Malcolm's house however is gone. It is a vacant lot overgrown with grass. 23 is next to a warehouse on the opposite side of the road to Jenny's place. The side wall of the warehouse would be the wall where Arnold's flying fox was attached.

I understand that only the exterior shots of the house were used in the movie, the interior shots being in an unknown house in Flemington. Similarly the interior shots of Mrs T's shop were in another shop.

Great pics. I only just found this place on Google Earth this morning (Street View rules!). I couldn't believe Malcolm's place has been demolished. And to think I was in Melbourne in 2005 & 2006 - if only I'd known, I'd have wandered over. I'm hoping to go down under again next year. Hopefully Jennie's place will still be standing.

I made the trip to Napoleon Street today July 31st 2011, here are some of the photos I took. There appears to have been some changes in the street such as a small apartment complex that has been built where I think number 26 (Malcolm's house) once stood.

Jenny's house.

Thanks for the photos. A real shame the house was demolished.

I created a new thread, but thought I would reply to this as I may get more replies. Do you know where in Melbourne the tram bridge shown at the end of the movie is? I would be interested in checking it out if it still exists! Thanks in advance

I plan on going to Melbourne in the coming weeks specifically to go to this location to have a look for myself. It's a shame that Malcolm's house is gone but it will be a real treat to walk down that same street.
