The eyebrows of SWAT Team Commander

The eyebrows are insane. Why did they make them like that? The eyebrows are in an unbelievable contrast with the strict and stern impression on the commander's face. It's so funny and so weird. Is it a kind of trademark Chinese humour?

I also find the opening sequence of the SWAT vs. CID pretty silly.

Any ideas or knowledge here?

Yeah the eyebrows are funny, they may have been there for comic effect or just to make the commander look more serious. Quite often characters in Hong Kong films from this era have exaggerated features. I actually like the opening sequence though; it has an intereting dream-like feel to it and helps introduce the change of tone between this and other Chan films.

That's right. Lam Ching-ying plays (and went on to play) the 'One Eyebrowed-Priest' in countless Mr. Vampire and Ghost films. This must be a minor tribute or reference to that character.

This was hilarious! The whole film was in fact. For some reason, Chinese filmmakers of this era had real difficulty in seperating drama and comedy.
