This is the only musical I enjoyed!

Of all the musicals I've seen in my life this is the only one that I liked and quite frankly one of the few ones I could stand. When someone like me who hates musicals manages to love it, I think that says a lot about how great this movie is. :)

I admit I'm not a big connoisseur of this movie genre, but I usually highly dislike any kind of musicals. Especially the ones that involve cheesy romance. But this movie cracked me up so much. :D

Can someone here suggest similar movies? Like I said I don't really care about romance but I'd like to watch more musicals like this one. I love movies that don't take themselves too seriously.

Very true, same here. I never like musicals. Too cheesy. This is the only one I've ever liked. At first I didn't like it because I thought it was cheesy too, but I lept watching another 5 mins and how good it was changed my mind. I think it's because instead of singing those nasally nonmelodic musical songs with extra retarded diction, they opted to do old time barbershop songs and things like that. Also, it's of course a big help that the main character guy is a really good singer:). Wow, I was surprised.

Rocky Horror Picture Show (-the most obvious choice!)
The Blues Brothers
Cabaret (1972)

I LOATHE musicals but RHPS is so bonkers that I can't help myself.& in Cabaret, they only sing in the club (-apart from one song and even then, it makes sense in its context) & don't sing instead of speak. And the Blues Brothers?! Just cool

There's always been a debate over whether 'Blues Brothers' actually qualifies as a musical; the general characteristic of a true musical, for me, is that the songs are directly related to the characters or the story. Which, in 'Little Shop of Horrors,' they manifestly are.

The songs in 'Blues Brothers' had nothing to do with the characters or the story, so I wouldn't call it a true musical.

I loved it, though; I can recite about 80% of 'Blues Brothers' from memory.

- Crazy. All crazy but I'm.

Same for me too. I generally hate musicals. My siblings and I used to fast forward through a lot of the songs in Disney movies and other musicals when we were younger.

I'm surprised that I actually enjoyed this one and I'm still trying to figure out why.

Other musicals that I have enjoyed or thought were ok:
-Blues Brothers
-The Producers. Not sure if this counts because I think it only had one or two songs in the original, but its one of my favorite comedies. Couldn't stand the remake though.
-Rocky Horror Picture Show. Similar to this movie.
-Rock of Ages. Super cheesy, but I like the songs enough to tolerate it.

Same situation for myself. Can't stand musicals usually but I love this movie.
