reply

Are you guys aware that there are two different versions of LINK ?
I have seen them both, and the version as seen in Europe is much, much better, the introducing scene (Link on the rooftops in the very biginning of the movie) is missing, but there are more scenes with Terence Stamp, scenes that make the movie much more coherent and interesting. Unfortunately the french DVD, with this editing I'm talking about, is dubbed.

reply

I never knew there were different versions.

We should petition for an uncut American dvd.

Are you sure there's no english track on the french dvd?? Because on the link below (no pun intended lol) the french dvd is listed as having both an english audio track and a french track. Did you try pressing the 'audio' button on your dvd player remote to check for an english track? It would really make no sense if the original audio isn't included. I am a big fan of the movie and would like to import this french dvd, but only if english audio is included. Thanks for any help!

Edit: Also, the page says the following: "The French subtitles remain always displayed on the screen when the English version is selected !!!"

So this dvd must have an english track..

how do you break up with breakfast?!
eat lunch earlier.

Unfortunately this excellent movie is not available in the UK on DVD. I have no news that it is going to be made available either.

The only way to get it is on Region 1 from the States... or the aforementioned French cut with subtitles.

reply

PS... OK, a rather late PS, sorry. After posting to this thread, I took the plunge and got hold of the Studio Canal French DVD mentioned above. I can confirm that it positively does NOT have an English soundtrack whatsoever. It also has no subtitles whatsoever.

Unless you know French fluently, and do not mind Terence Stamp's beautiful voice absent without leave... don't purchase.

The German DVD, which is the same cut as the US one, is apparently only 4:3... and the US DVD release is now discontinued. So now, this fine film is even more difficult to get hold of.

A little update... since the last time I posted here a Dutch Region 2 PAL DVD release of 'Link' has appeared. It's widescreen and a nice print of the American cut, and in English - it seemed a clearer picture to me than the American DVD I had before.

It can be purchased through Amazon UK.

That discount doesn't sound very deep to me! I'll stick with my $1.50 VHS version.
