I know I'm probably in the minority on this but...

...I actually like this movie better than the prequel. It's not that I don't like the original, but I think this movie was more colorful especially with all the Okinawa sceneries in the movie. I also like the storyline in the movie where we get a little more details in Mr. Miyagi's background. Even though we don't get the big fight between Miyagi and Sato that was built up on and off throughout the duration of the movie, it's STILL a good dramatic movie all in all. I just wish that I can say the same for the third and fourth sequels!

None of the scenes were ACTUALLY filmed in okinawa. All filmed in the US

reply

Maybe so,but it STILL looked convincing enough for me. The movie could of been filmed on the MOON for all I care...

reply

The Okinawa scenes were filmed on Oahu (Hawaii), which, like Okinawa, is a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean. Of course, Hawaii is part of the US, but it looks nothing like any part of the mainland US, and makes for a good substitute for Okinawa in a movie.

Prequel? What?

reply

THERE WAS NO PREQUEL....there wasnt even a part 4. there was 3 original karate kids...then in the early 90s there was The Next Karate kid..main character was a girl played by hillary swank. Then a few years ago they did the karate kid remake. Main character played by jayden smith. and jackie chan played the role of miyagi. Because Pat Morita died.

I meant the 1st Karate Kid movie- the prequel to part 2...

reply

That's not what "prequel" means. A prequel is made after a particular movie (or other work of fiction) but its story line is set before said movie. If The Karate Kid Part II had been made first, then The Karate Kid would be a prequel.

reply

This reminds me of the "boneless watermelon" conversation

> I'm eating some boneless watermelon.

> You don't need to say "boneless." Watermelon doesn't have bones.

> Yes, I know that's why it's boneless.

reply

The "boneless" IMPLIES that there are 'boneful' watermelons, and THAT makes it wrong.

I might as well say I have a 'hovercraftless computer'. If people start thinking this kind of talk is correct, then all bets are off and anything goes and nothing has any meaning anymore.

There are no 'boneful' watermelons, so implying there are, is a form of lying, and lying is wrong.

reply

Which is exactly the point about referring to the first movie as a "prequel."

A prequel implies an earlier storyline released after a specific movie. Since KKI was released first, it is not a "prequel" to KKII.

What was wrong with the movie?

I personally like Part 3 the best...as a kid part 2 was my least favorite. Now that i am older It has grown on me. Even though part 3 is my favorite, I think the acting of Ralph and Pat in part 2 was incredible.

"I actually like this movie better than the prequel."

Wow. So many mistakes in such a short statement.

1) No, you don't. Or you don't understand what these movies are about. They're not about story, drama or romance - those are just surface qualities thrown in so it's easier for western audiences to chew.

2) There's no 'prequel'. This word does not exist.

3) What people MEAN by using that non-word, is not 'the first movie', but a movie that's made AFTER the first movie, that CHRONOLOGICALLY TAKES PLACE BEFORE THE FIRST MOVIE. Stop calling first movie or first part of a story a 'prequel'.

Just because there's a word 'sequel', doesn't mean there's a word 'prequel'. What do you think 'quel' means? Does 'se' mean anything by itself? It's like 'Watergate Scandal' being made into 'whateverGate', as if the GATE somehow means something specific, when in fact, 'Watergate' is just the name of a hotel. Sheesh.

reply

I'm pretty sure everyone knew what he meant when he said prequel instead of "the first KK movie".
There was no need to call him out on a syntax error. That's about as douchey as that other guy...the buzzkill who just had to mention KKII wasn't filmed in Okinawa.

reply

Dude...why are you replying and correcting someone that will never see it??? Lmao...😂

reply

I preferred number two also.

reply

I think it's probably because I saw this one more growing up, but I always liked this one more too.
