What is that white paste which the Interrogator rubs on Mitch's nipples before attaching the alligator clamps? Is it to increase the force of the electrical shocks? Or is it to make the clamps adhere better to the nipples? When Mitch falls over backward in his chair, why aren't the clamps torn off his nipples?

I'm pretty sure it's some kind of electro conductive cream that is rubbed on Mitch's nipples in order to make the shock treatment to his nipples more painful, not to make the clamps adhere better. As far as tearing off, the clamps are probably so tightly clamped on his nipples they wouldn't be torn off even though he passed out from the shock treatment and fell over backwards.
