A bit of a mess

"The Housekeeper" aka "A Judgment in Stone" is a pretty convoluted film, with scenes that fall flat and a distinct lack of suspense. Still, it's very well acted and directed. Jackie Burroughs (who, sadly, passed away a few weeks ago) completely steals every scene as the retired prostie with an eye for vengeance. 6/10 stars for effort and atmosphere.

Has anyone read the novel this is adapted from? I think there's a good story to be told, but this film doesn't tell it very coherently or effectively.
