Is It Pique-Bouffigue's Ghost?

After the death of Pique-Bouffigue, owner of the ranch, Soubeyrans make an expedition through the ranch. Right at that moment, a man with a gun is seen within the late rancher's house and Soubeyrans hear a voice from the house and they think it was a rabbit or something. Do you have any idea whom it might be? Is it Pique-Bouffigue's ghost?

And yet I have just seen Manon des Sources and found out who it was :) It's revealed there, in the sequel.
